When we talk about the greatest and smallest numbers, we need to know how to arrange the digits in a certain order. It’s like putting the numbers in a line from biggest to smallest or from smallest to biggest.
To find the greatest number, we arrange the digits in descending order. That means we start with the biggest digit and go down to the smallest digit. This makes the number really big.
On the other hand, to find the smallest number, we arrange the digits in ascending order. That means we start with the smallest digit and go up to the biggest digit. This makes the number really small.
The position of a digit on the left side of a number is important. The digit on the far left has the highest value. So, if we want to make the greatest number, we need to put the biggest digit on the far left side.
But there’s something special when we have the digit 0. We don’t put 0 at the far left side to make the smallest number. Instead, we put it as the second digit from the left. This helps us make the number as small as possible.
So, when we arrange numbers, remember that the biggest digit goes on the left side to make the number greatest, and if we have 0, it goes as the second digit from the left to make the number smallest.
Learning formation of the greatest and smallest number can be made enjoyable by incorporating interactive games and activities.
