Math Story : Counting Up To 100

The Lighthouse And It’s Steps

It is a bright full moon night. Uncle Math and the kids are standing somewhere. There is a lot of water around them. Oh! There are so many steps. Where are they going?

“Children, do you see that tall tower? That is a lighthouse. Today we are going there. You will love the view of the sea from the top. Shall we begin?” says Uncle Math. The kids are excited to see a lighthouse for the first time.

But Cirho looks odd. Why? “Oh! I won’t be able to climb so many steps. How many steps are these, Uncle Math?” he questions. Being clueless, Uncle Math asks him to keep calm and proposes an idea, “How about counting the steps together as we climb? We will sing, dance and have so much fun”. The kids are thrilled now.

(They start singing:)

Triho, Cirha, Cirho, Squarho are going to the lighthouse.

Up, Up, Up is the lighthouse.

“Awesome! We climbed 100 steps”, says Uncle Math. “The big hurdle like this one also turned into a play because all of us were together. That’s more amazing!” says Triho. 100 steps of the lighthouse will always stay with them as a beautiful memory.

We Learnt That…

  • We can count easily using numbers from 1 to 100.
  • We can easily cross any big hurdle with a good team.
  • The best way to overcome obstacles is to convert them into play.

Let’s Discuss

  • Where were we today? How did we count the steps?
  • “I won’t be able to climb so many steps,” said Cirho even before starting to climb. Should he have done that? Why or why not?
  •  When Cirho got tired, all of us supported him. Have you done something similar for your friends?
  • “The big hurdle like this one also turned into a play because all of us were together.” What do you understand by this?
